HAL, the renowned aerospace company headquartered in Bengaluru, has marked a significant achievement by handing over the first LCA Tejas twin-seater aircraft to the Indian Air Force (IAF). This development comes as a substantial addition to India’s defense capabilities and aligns with the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative of the Government of India.

Strengthening Training and Combat Capabilities

The LCA Tejas twin-seater variant offers a versatile solution to the training needs of the IAF. It not only supports training requirements but also seamlessly transitions into a fighter aircraft when the situation demands. This dual role capability enhances the overall readiness and effectiveness of the IAF.

Key Figures in the Ceremony

The unveiling of the LCA twin-seater and the formal handover of Release to Service (RSD) and Signalling out Certificate (SOC) took place during a special ceremony. Union Minister of State for Defence, Ajay Bhatt, graced the event as the chief guest. Also present were Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal V.R. Chaudhari, among other dignitaries.

The LCA Tejas twin-seater represents a leap in Indian aviation technology. It belongs to the 4.5 generation of aircraft, boasting state-of-the-art features. Some of its key technological highlights include:

  • Quadraplex fly-by-wire flight control

Fulfilling Orders and Future Prospects

HAL has a substantial order of 18 twin-seater aircraft from the IAF, with plans to deliver eight of them during 2023-24. The remaining ten will be progressively delivered by 2026-27. Furthermore, there are expectations of more orders from the IAF in the near future.
