It is always good to follow certain steps in our initial preparation. First step should be to get an overall idea about geography as discipline. And in second stage, one should read to get in depth knowledge of every topic mentioned in the syllabus.

In further stages, one should have a look at the question papers and try to answer the questions asked in past years papers. And last, make your own short notes to read before the exam.

These are the some guidelines I can suggest.

  1. Start your preparation with NCERTs. Read all the Geography NCERTs from Class 6 to 12. Your focus should be on comprehending the topic rather than collecting facts and figures.
  2. After NCERTs, go through the book “Certificate Physical and Human Geography” by GC Leong. It is an excellent book which explains the interconnection between human and physical geography.
  3. After this one gets an idea of discipline of Geography. Now its time to move on and strictly follow the syllabus and past years question papers.
  4. If you have not joined any classroom coaching institute then buy classroom notes of any reputed institute. These notes are very comprehensive and strictly adheres to the syllabus and thus guides our preparation.
  5. Read the reference books to gain in depth knowledge. If you still has a doubt then google the terms. Prepare your own notes if you feel comfortable.
  6. Most importantly, whenever you come across new place then locate it on the map. Remember, the map based questions can fetch you full marks.
  7. Remember, Geography is not complete without maps and diagrams. You should prepare your own case studies for each topic mentioned in the syllabus.
  8. Join good test series. Give the mock tests and develop habit of attempting all the questions. Get your performance evaluated. Work on the suggestions.

Remember, minimum material and maximum revision is the key.
